Parents: Finding The Best Parenting Classes

Filed under: General — Kimmy @ 12:13 pm

Finding parenting classes for parents isn’t easy. I mean, we all know that kids don’t arrive with an instruction manual. It’s not really fair: a child comes along and we are dumped in the deep end. Parenting can be very challenging and that is why it is important to choose your parenting classes wisely. Here are a few tips for you:

Does the person taking the classes have a degree? Then do NOT listen to them. I’m serious here! Let me tell you why. Universities might be great when it comes to theory, but what you need as a parent is experience. Anyone can get a degree at a University, but that does not prove that they have the experience necessary to teach you how to be the best parent you can be to your child.

The second thing I would check is “have they been a parent and how many children have they raised?” Try adding up the sum of the ages of their children, and if you get a number over fifty then chances are that person has a lot of experience under their belt. Wouldn’t you rather learn from someone who has been where you are wanting to go? How can someone with just one or two children personally have the background knowledge to help you with your most prized possessions, your kids?

Thirdly, is the person you are considering a well published author? For example, do they have more than a handful of articles published on Ezine Articles? Why do I say this site? Only because it is the 200th most visited web site on the face of the earth. Chances are if someone has more than 20 or 30 articles published here, they are truly an authority on parenting.

Fourthly, do they talk in a language that is easy for you to understand? There’s nothing worse than going to a doctor and listening to him use language that you cannot understand. You want to look for someone who talks straight forward, every day language that you can relate to, hey? Just being honest here.

Does their method of delivery suit your lifestyle? People are so busy nowadays. No-one wants to be pinned down to a specific time and date anymore. Online classes would be great wouldn’t they? Something that you could work at in your own time and at your own pace.

Lastly, is the person available for you? Can you easily contact them to ask questions? Is their email address easy for you to find? Have a look at their web site and see if there is an option to contact that person to discuss anything and everything. This is vitally important. Anyone who is worth their weight in gold will be only too happy to answer questions for you. If you are choosing a mentor to help you as a parent, you want to be sure that you can contact them to discuss anything prior to parting with your hard earned money. That’s only fair.

Smart parents take classes to accelerate their progress and make sure their kids flourish in life. I hope this helps alleviate some of the stress out of finding the right parenting classes for you.
