How To Be A Great Parent

Filed under: General — Kimmy @ 9:03 am

Being a great parent doesn’t come easily. When kids are born they don’t come with an instruction booklet. Parents learn as they go in may cases.

Right now I am in Thailand at a conference and as I look around at people and things I notice a few differences. For instance the animals over here. It seems that this culture have no emotional attachment to their pets which I think is sad as I am a pet lover. It reminds me of my plight to become a great parent.

We have to make decisions while raising our kids that affect our children for the rest of their lives. If we raise our kids with good boundaries and kind words, they will in turn learn to respond to that. Kids become what they live with. This is important as we influence them in many ways.

The animals that I have seen here seem to be conditioned to act a certain way. When you pass a dog in the street, it doesn’t come up to you wagging its tail. Weird, hey? But they have never known affection so don’t expect it. How sad is that?

As parents we need to realise that everything we say and do has an impact on our children whether good or bad. So we best make sure that we watch what we do and say in our plight to be the great parent we know we can be.
